 Tautology 



This is simply the repeated use of words or phrases which possess similar meaning in a sentence. Usually, one of the two words or phrases is enough to convey the intended meaning. 

Examples:

I don’t like the idea of people talking about me like as if I were dead [Tautology].

The above statement is wrong because ‘like’ has same meaning as ‘as if’. Instead one should say:

I don’t like the idea of people talking about me like or as if or as though I were dead.
