WASSCE: Stakeholders tag the increment of WAEC/SSCE enrolment fees as 'arbitrary'.
The West African Examinations Council is in charge of organizing the Senior School Certificate Exams also known as SSCE, an annual exam involving West African States.
The decision taken by WAEC to increase the examination fees did not go down well with both parents and private school owners. Some private school owners claimed that WAEC's decision to increase the examination fees was not 'communicated' to schools and parents in good time.
Some schools and parents struggled really hard to pay former examination fees and how are they supposed to cope with the 'new fees'?
They also complained that as if it were not enough, while they were struggling to adapt (pay) to the new examination fees, WAEC announced the 'closure' of 'registration' and went further to impose the sum of ₦5,000 (Five thousand Naira) as 'penalty' for 'late registration'.
It was gathered that the Lagos State Chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), had formerly and formally appealed to WAEC to discontinue with the penalty charges, stating that the registration exercise experienced a set back or slow progress as most parents and schools were not prepared for the 'exam fee increment' whatsoever.
